DIY Christmas Ornaments
It seems like Christmas is rushed more and more each year but, I don’t mind it at all. All the joy and cheer is so exciting. I love Christmas. It’s my favorite time to DIY because, I feel most creative this time of year, as I’m sure most of you do as well. 😀 It’s that time of year that makes you want to keep your home clean and cozy, and by cozy I mean fully decorated and ready to PARTY!! 😀 😀
I am super excited to announce that I’ve teamed up with Simply Handmade to share these 12 Christmas Ornament DIYS. We are splitting the project in half and will be sharing 6 ornaments each. These ornaments are the perfect DIY for a family craft night and best of all they’re all kid friendly. (with parent supervision 😉 )
Here are the instructions on how to make your first six ornaments… Don’t forget to visit this link to see how to make the rest!!
FUN FACTS: Here’s something you might want to know… These DIY ornaments are made using recycled ornaments or things you can find outdoors!!
Here’s a quick video to show you how to make the first 6.
Christmas Apple:
What you’ll need
- Old plastic ornament
- Fabric (I used velvet)
- Twig (for the stem )
- Pine sprig
- Hot glue
- Scissors
- Sheers (safety glasses)
To make your apple ornament you’ll need to cut about a 1″ hole at the top of your ornament.
Then cut a circle out of your fabric. Fold your fabric around your ornament and stick all of the leftover fabric in the hole.
Following that take your stem, add hot glue on the tip and stick it into the hole of your ornament. Add some pine sprigs and you should be done.
Rustic Candle:
What you’ll need
- Stick
- Almond
- Hot glue
- Clothespin
- pine sprig
This one is pretty self explanatory. Glue your almond to the top of your stick and your clothespin to the bottom. Add your pine sprigs to cover your clothespin and you should be done.
Baby Jesus:
What you’ll need
- Hay or Dry Grass
- Tiny Wooden Peg People
- Felt (scissors)
- Hot Glue
- Clear ornament with hole
(use a hot knife to make a hole if you can’t find an ornament with a hole)
I used my hot knife to make a hole in my ornament. I didn’t pre-draw my circle so mine turned out pretty messy. Use your felt to wrap up your baby Jesus and secure it with hot glue. Stuff your ornament with hay. Flatten it and insert your baby Jesus inside. (you can use hot glue to make sure everything stays in place.
Up-cycled Plaid:
What you’ll need
- Plaid Fabric Square
- String
- Old ornament
- Scissors
This one is super easy. I’ve been doing this for a few year to match each years color theme and it is SO AFFORDABLE!! All you’ll need to do is wrap your old ornament in the fabric square and tie it off with string. That’s it.
Rustic Star:
What you’ll need
- 6 twigs
- Hot Glue
- Gold Wire
To make your star you’ll need to make two triangle. Hot glue the corners to secure your triangles. Then lay one triangle on top of the other and hot-glue them together.
To finish it off take your wire and wrap it around your star to make it sparkle.
Snowy Pine Cones:
What you’ll need
- Pine Cones
- Ribbon or pine sprig
- Jar of white paint
- Wax-paper
- String
- Hot glue
First off you’ll need to add a loop to your pine cone with your string. Use your hot glue to do so. Then while holding your pine cone by the loop quickly dip it into your jar of paint. Set it onto your waxpaper and let it dry in a warm place over night. For the finishing touches add your ribbon or pine sprig.
Here they are? Which ones are you going to make?
I just can’t get over how cute these apple ornaments are! 😀 I want to make white ones and add red frosted berries instead of the pine sprigs! 😀
You can leave your clothespin a bit visible if you’d like. Believe it or not you can’t really tell once it’s on the Christmas tree because all the attention is on the candlestick! 😀
How cool does that almond look 😀
I love the plaid trick!! Change your fabric yearly to match your Christmas decor theme. 😀
This star is a bit rough around the edges but, it gives the perfect rustic feel!
These pine cones are a fun and cheap way to fill up your Christmas tree! 😀 I got mine from my yard! We have all sorts of trees! Total Cost $0.
Ole couldn’t wait to get his hands on this Jesus ornament! He made his own and displayed it on our piano because we don’t have the Christmas Tree up yet. 😀
Here’s a few snippets of my awesome friend Kells ornaments. Check out this link to see how she made them. https://youtu.be/KuUSieBzUkE
Don’t forget to let me know which one is your favorite! 😀 Happy holidays everyone!
Hi Lily, All of these are my favorite but if I had to pick “just” one, it would be the candle 😍😍 I think on my tree I would probably paint the almond red though since my tree is white and I have alot of white, clear, silver and gold ornaments on the tree (oh, i just had an idea, i think I will paint the almond GOLD !!) haha, funny how we come up with ideas off of another’s, isn’t it ? Thanks for all the great ornament ideas. I am going to check out your friends also and I Pinned yours for my board of Christmas crafts !
